🌱 Common vetch Pegasus (Pegasus)

🌿 Abundant green biomass • ☀️ Very good drought tolerance • 🌾 High forage value

Pegasus (Pegasus) is a spring annual common vetch cultivar (Vicia sativa L.) intended for the production of high-quality forage. It is characterized by very good drought tolerance and adaptability to various soil and climatic conditions.

🌱 The plants form well-developed green biomass suitable for the production of green forage, hay, and silage. The cultivar can be grown alone or in mixtures with cereal crops, which provide natural support for the stems and facilitate mechanized harvesting.

♻️ As a legume crop, common vetch has the ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen through symbiosis with root nodule bacteria. This makes it a valuable component in crop rotation and a suitable crop for green manure.

⭐ Main advantages

  1. ☀️ Very good drought tolerance – suitable for areas with limited rainfall.
  2. 🌿 Abundant green biomass – suitable for various forage production purposes.
  3. 🌾 Suitable for forage mixtures – successfully combined with oats, barley, and triticale.
  4. 🐄 High forage value – a valuable source of plant protein for feeding farm animals.
  5. 🌍 Good adaptability – adaptability to various soil and climatic conditions.
  6. ♻️ Improves soil fertility – through biological nitrogen fixation and accumulation of organic matter.

🚜 Sowing recommendations

📅 Sowing period

🌸 Early spring – February–March, as soon as soil and climatic conditions allow quality tillage and sowing.

⚖️ Sowing rate

🌱 For vetch Pegasus (Vicia sativa): 12–16 kg/daa for sole spring sowing, depending on soil and climatic conditions and seedbed preparation.

🌾 When grown in mixtures with cereal crops: The sowing rate is determined according to the ratio between components and the purpose of the crop.

📏 Sowing depth: 3–5 cm.

↔️ Row spacing: 12–15 cm.

🌍 Soil requirements: Prefers well-drained, fertile soils without prolonged waterlogging.

🧪 Fertilization: Balanced phosphorus and potassium fertilization is recommended according to soil analysis. Due to its ability for biological nitrogen fixation, the need for mineral nitrogen is limited with effective development of root nodule bacteria.

🌾 Usage and harvesting

🐄 For green forage and hay

Harvesting is recommended around the flowering stage, when a good balance between quantity and nutritional value of the forage mass is achieved.

🚜 For silage

Suitable for silage production, with harvesting time adjusted according to plant development and required dry matter content.

🌾 For feed mixtures

Can be grown in combination with oats, barley, and triticale. The cereal crops provide natural support for the vetch, reduce lodging, and facilitate mechanized harvesting.

♻️ For green manure

Suitable for inclusion in crop rotation to accumulate organic matter, support soil fertility, and improve soil structure.
