Unlike grain pea cultivars, where part of the foliage is replaced by whiskers, forage pea types grown for biomass develop abundant foliage and produce significantly higher yields of both green and dry matter.

Forage pea forms a large amount of protein per unit area thanks to the nitrogen-fixing tubers on the roots, making it a valuable forage crop for livestock and an excellent choice for green manuring. Its inclusion in the crop rotation brings both economic and agronomic benefits.

The dense plant cover quickly covers the soil surface and effectively suppresses the development of weeds. This type of pea also improves the structure and fertility of light, sandy soils. Biomass yield is high, especially when grown in a mixture with a cereal crop that serves as a support.

The recommended sowing rate is 80–100 seeds/m². For best results, it is recommended to sow in a mixture with a cereal - eg oats - in a ratio of 3:1 or 2:1. This combination provides a balanced and nutritious forage, with the cereal crop serving as a natural support that helps straighten the pea stalks, facilitates mowing and contributes to more uniform ripening.
