Ameliorative-forage turnip is an annual cruciferous crop grown both for green mass and root crops for feeding animals, and as an intercrop to improve soil structure and fertility. It develops a powerful root system that loosens and aerates the soil, increases organic matter content and helps retain moisture. The culture is cold-resistant, germinates quickly and forms a large leaf mass in a short time, which makes it suitable for green manuring and as a cover crop.
